Like our illustrious Commander-in-Chief would have a lot of experience in that area, what with all his Florabama shenanigans with his comrades-in-elbow-bending from the Texas Air National Guard.
Since the war began…
- According to Iraq Body Count, at least 82,249 civilians (more than four times the student population of Georgia State University) have been DOCUMENTED as killed (for the most part, by us).
- According to the Department of Defense, 3991 coalition troops and civilian contractors–roughly DOUBLE the population of GSU’s Commons residents–have been killed.
We won’t get into our nation’s devastated economy and nonexistent credibility on the international stage. We won’t get into the fact that the alleged perpetrator behind the 9/11 attacks roams free NOT in Iraq. We won’t get into the tens of thousands of severely wounded veterans coming home, many of whom were warehoused in substandard cinderblock “wards” until an NPR reporter started poking around. We won’t get into the chickenhawks who stole the last two elections, or the fact that Cheney, Rumsfeld, Poppy Bush, etc. have been puppeteering the White House for most of the past 40 years, which included propping up Saddam Hussein. We won’t even think about the material difference between WWII and now when it comes to the concept of “wartime sacrifice.” Victory Gardens and scrap drives have been replaced by whining about high SUV fill-up prices and restrictions on shampoo-bottle sizes aboard planes. Yeah, we are really doing our part as a nation.
It’s time for the citizens of the United States to take responsibility for their government, to take it back from those who have hijacked it, and to impeach and prosecute its oligarchs.
